In keeping with current government advice, there are no plans to change the first round of the Queensland Open Fencing Circuit (QFA1). The event will still be held as scheduled on Saturday 21 March subject to any changes in advice received from the relevant government and medical authorities. However, fencers should note that there will be significant control measures in place at the event. These include, but are not limited to:
All equipment must be disinfected prior to and after the competition. This particularly applies to masks, gloves, breast plates, groin protection, and bodywires.
QFA will not be loaning equipment for this event.
No spectators will be allowed at the event.
No non-essential people at the event (only competitors, DT, and SCD)
No children under 14.
No use of the bubblers or other shared water sources. QFA has a drinks vending machine in the office for the purchase of drinks and chocolates.
All fencers are to thoroughly wash or sanitise their hands regularly throughout the event.
Fencers will be required to social distance when not on the piste.
There will not be a canteen.
Any person who has been overseas in the past 14 days, is waiting for test results, is subject to self-isolation conditions or any other measure deemed necessary by the relevant government or medical authority is not allowed at the venue.
Immunocompromised fencers should reconsider whether it is in their own health interests to compete and this decision should be made with relevant medical consultation.
Anyone showing any symptoms of the virus are not to attend (even if it just turns out to be a head cold it is better to err on the side of caution).
Anyone who attends the event unwell or becomes unwell during the event will be removed.
All QFA events will be carefully reviewed daily to ensure that any changes to protocols are updated as necessary. Further measures may be added closer to the event.
QFA reserves the right to cancel the event at short notice should the situation warrant such action.
