Queensland School Fencer State Championships

Action

The Queensland Fencing Association will be hosting the Queensland School Fencer State Championships on Saturday, 2nd June at Yeronga SHS.These championship events are open to any secondary school fencer in Queensland and will be fenced in two categories consistent with the Australian School Fencer categories. These are:

Intermediate = Up to the third year of secondary school

Senior = Open to any secondary school fencer (including intermediate fencers)

Fencers may enter in multiple weapons for this event. Intermediate fencers may enter both the Intermediate and Senior categories.

QFA U13 Foil Championships

U13 Foil Champs

The U13 State Foil Championships will be held on Saturday, 2 June at Yeronga SHS. This event will run on the same day as the Queensland School Fencer Championships but is a separate event and not part of the school competition.

QFA Open Circuit #2 Incorporating Novice Sabre

The second round of the QFA Open Circuit for 2018 will be held on Sunday, 20 May at Yeronga SHS, Villa St, Yeronga.This event will include a Novice Sabre event.

Entry Fees - Open Circuit Events
Standard entry (up to 16/5/18)     $30.00

Late entry (16-19/5/18)               $40.00

On-the-Day entry (20/5/18)          $50.00

All fencers will need to be Junior or Senior Members of the Queensland Fencing Association in order to register online. Interstate or International competitors are welcome and should register contact [email protected] for more information. 

All Veteran Fencers (Ages 40+ in 2018) will also receive QFA Veteran Ranking Points from the competition - the Veteran Results will be extracted from the Open Competition rather than being a separate event.

To compete in multiple events, please register for each individually.

Men's Epee - 7:30 am
Women's Epee - 7:30 am
Women's Sabre - 11:30 am
Men's Sabre - 12:00 pm
Women's Foil - 1:00 pm
Men's Foil - 1:30 pm

Novice Sabre - 9:00am (This will be a mixed event unless numbers warrant separate events)

**Competitors will be expected to referee poules.

Fencers need to be there at least 15 minutes before the start time to get ready. Competitions are fenced using full electric equipment, including conductive foil masks. Medallists will need a tracksuit jacket or fencing whites for presentations.

All fencers are expected to assist with the setup and pack down of the venue.

Referee Nominations

Referee nominating for this event are to register their interest through the event signon link. Referees will be asigned according to the needs of the competition and at the discretion of the State Officiating Director. Queries regarding refereeing should be directed to [email protected]

 

School fixtures commencing

Brisbane school fixtures commence Saturday 21st April 2018 at Yeronga Sports Centre, Villa Street Yeronga. There are six rounds of competition (21 April, 28 April, 5 May, 12 May, 19 May, 26 May) with the following schedule:

Session 1

(8:00-10:00am)

Senior/Open Foil
Primary Foil

Session 2 

(10:00am-12:00pm)

Senior/Open Sabre
Junior Epee
Year 7/8 Foil

Session 3

(12:00-2:00pm)

Senior/Open Epee
Year 9/10 Foil
Junior Sabre

COMPOSITE TEAMS:

(Only for fencers from schools which do not enter complete teams)

QFA welcomes school-aged individuals who may not have a school team to enter the school fixtures. You can register here and we will put you in a composite team. It's a great way to get competition experience and meet new people. For these fencers only (NOT fencers already in a school team), please follow this link to register.

MEMBERSHIP:

Fencers are required to be a School Fencer Member or Junior Members of QFA in order to participate in this competition.

EQUIPMENT STANDARDS:

Bouts will be fenced using electric scoring equipment. Fencers are required to have working electric weapons, body wires and lames. Note that foil masks with conductive bibs are not required for school competitions in Queensland. Fencers will be required to wear full fencing whites, including long socks, a safe fencing mask and a fencing glove. The use of plastrons or breast-plates is allowed and encouraged, and breast plates are required for all female competitors.
